HEAVY DISTILLATES

PETROLAND’s professional team has a demonstrated record in market for supplying HSFO and Bitumen in the ME region and Far East Markets. In This sector our team covers below products:

HSFO – High-sulfur fuel oil

The alternative to using marine fuels with such low sulfur content in ECAs is the use of scrubbers. This technology involves injecting water into the exhaust stream to reduce sulfur and other emissions. However, refitting a ship with this technology costs several million euros and means that the ship is docked for a period of time, which leads to a loss in revenue and income for the ship owners. On the other hand, a scrubber allows higher-sulfur marine fuels to be used. In this context, such heavy fuel oils are designated as high-sulfur fuel oils (HSFO), which have a maximum sulfur content of 3.5% as permitted under ISO 8217.

Bitumen

Bitumen for road construction is classified by the needle penetration test according to DIN EN 1426. For example, “bitumen 50/70” means that the test needle penetrates to a depth of 5-7 mm. Common varieties are 70/100, 50/70, 30/45 and 20/30. The smaller the numbers, the “harder” the bitumen type.

40/50

This bitumen is produced through aeration on vacuum bottom (the raw material used for making bitumen left in the vacuum distillation column in oil refineries) in bitumen production units. Its penetration grade (a measure of bitumen hardness) is between 40 to 50.It is applied to areas with warm weather. It is not softened at high temperatures and does not fail its qualities.

  Specification

60/70

This bitumen is produced through aeration on vacuum bottom (the raw material used for making bitumen left in the vacuum distillation column in oil refineries) in bitumen production units. Its penetration grade (a measure of bitumen hardness) is between 60 to 70.It is applied to areas with temperate weather.

  Specification

85/100

This bitumen is produced through aeration on vacuum bottom (the raw material used for making bitumen left in vacuum distillation column in oil refineries) in bitumen production units. Its penetration grade (measure of bitumen hardness) is between 85 to 100. Specification is Relatively Low Aeration and It is used in areas with cold weather for asphalting and insulation. It is not cracked in low temperatures.
